Stamp duty & foreign buyer surcharge calculator

Privacy policy

Last updated 2026-09-14

The short version

This is a calculator, not an account-based service. There is nothing to sign up for, and we do not ask for your name, email address or phone number.

Everything you type into the calculator — the price, your buyer status, the property type — is worked out inside your own browser. Those values are not sent to us, and we never see them.

We do not run advertising on this site, we do not sell or share personal information, and the site loads no third-party scripts, fonts or trackers.

1. Who is responsible

RIPPLE PLATFORM PTY LTD ("we", "us", "our") operates this website. We are an APP entity under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and handle personal information in accordance with that Act and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

You can reach us about anything in this policy at privacy@example.com.

2. What you enter into the calculator

The duty rates and fee schedules are delivered to your browser as part of the page, and the calculation runs on your device. The figures you enter are not transmitted to us and are not stored on our servers.

The one exception is the "copy link" feature. A shared link carries your inputs in the address — for example the property price and buyer status. If you or the person you send it to opens that link, those values travel in the web address and will appear in our hosting provider's access logs (see section 4). If you would rather that did not happen, do not use the share link for a figure you want to keep private.

3. Cookies and browser storage

We set one cookie, and only after you choose a language from the menu:

  • lang — records which language you picked, so the site does not keep guessing from your browser settings. It contains a language code such as "en" or "zh-tw" and nothing else. It lasts one year, is first-party, and is limited to this site (SameSite=Lax).
  • We use no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not store anything in your browser's local storage.

4. Information collected automatically

Like any website, this site is served by a hosting provider that keeps standard access logs. Those logs typically record your IP address, the date and time, the page address requested (including any query parameters, as noted in section 2), your browser type and the referring page.

We use these logs only to operate the site, investigate faults and protect against abuse. We do not use them to build a profile of you and we do not try to identify you from them.

5. How we use information

We use the limited information described above to deliver and maintain the site, keep the published rates accurate and current, diagnose faults, protect against misuse, and comply with the law.

6. Who we disclose information to

We do not sell personal information and we do not disclose it for advertising or any other organisation's marketing.

We disclose information only to the service providers that host and deliver this site, and only so they can perform that service for us, or where we are required to do so by law.

7. Overseas disclosure

Our hosting provider is Amazon Web Services. Depending on where you are and how traffic is routed, access logs and cached copies of the pages may be handled on servers outside Australia, including in the United States.

By using the site you acknowledge that information may be handled overseas in this way, and that overseas recipients may not be subject to the Privacy Act.

8. How long we keep information

We keep access logs only as long as we need them to operate and secure the site, after which they are deleted or overwritten by our hosting provider in the ordinary course. Because we hold no accounts, there is no stored profile to retain.

9. Security

The site is served over HTTPS. Because we do not collect or store personal information you submit, the main protection is structural: there is no database of user inputs to be lost or stolen. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Principles you may ask for access to personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Write to privacy@example.com and we will respond within a reasonable period.

In practice we hold almost nothing that identifies you, so in most cases our answer will be that we hold no personal information about you beyond the access logs described in section 4.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, you may complain to us at privacy@example.com. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at www.oaic.gov.au.

11. Children

This site is a general reference tool for adults dealing with Australian property transactions. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

12. About the figures on this site

This is not a privacy matter, but it matters enough to say here: the calculator provides general information only. It is not tax, legal or financial advice. Rates, concessions and fees change, and whether a buyer is a "foreign person" turns on each jurisdiction's own test. Confirm your position with the relevant revenue office and your own adviser before acting.

13. Changes to this policy

If we change how the site handles information — for example if we switch analytics on, or add advertising — we will update this policy and change the date at the top before the change takes effect.
